PROJECTS IN WHICH I PARTICIPATE
SALT SHIP
The fifth edition of the HAU COMPETITION FOR THE DESIGN OF TRADITIONAL BASQUE OBJECTS proposed the salt cellar as a piece to be reviewed, a container used to store salt in the kitchen and at the table. It comes in many different shapes and sizes and is made from a wide variety of materials - wood, horn, fine basketry, terracotta, glass, earthenware, porcelain and nowadays plastic and stainless steel. The traditional and popular salt cellars that have been most commonly used in the Basque Country are made from different types of wood.
The jury was made up of Fermín Leizaola Calvo (director of the Ethnography Department of the Aranzadi Science Society), Elisabeth Urrutia Bea (industrial designer), Agurtzane Garai Ibarluzea (head of mediation at San Telmo Museoa), Xabier Llordes (head of the professional association of industrial, graphic and space designers of the Basque Country and Navarre, EIDE) and Helga Massetani Piemonte (Director of Bitamine Fakin Fakin), Xabier Llordes (head of the professional association of industrial, graphic and space designers of the Basque Country and Navarre, EIDE) and Helga Massetani Piemonte (Director of Bitamine Faktoria) awarded the prize to the project DESOCUPACIÓN DEL CILINDRO SALERO, presented by PEDRO GALDÓN.
The DESOCUPACIÓN DEL CILINDRO SALERO project skilfully and sensitively combines the technical, functional and formal aspects of the object. The craftsmanship that gives exclusivity to each piece stands out and although it proposes a marked inspiration in tradition with a clear nod to traditional Basque sculpture, the design is timeless, which will make it last through time.
It updates some of its main characteristics to current uses and customs. All these reasons validate the project and make its introduction into the market viable and sustainable.
Bitamine Faktoria, organiser of the competition, would like to thank the collaborating institutions, the members of the Jury and the people who participated for their interest in this edition.
