GASPAR ACEBO
SUSPENSION
Exhibition of the work created during the Bitamine Faktoria 2013 residence by Gaspar Acebo.
"Bitamine Faktoria is a self-managed creation factory and its mission is, among other things, to increase the cultural offer, to interact and network as a private sector, driven by the need to showcase different visions of contemporary art. The international residency arises to analyze the viewpoint of the international artists who participate in the residency and its main objective is to develop the vision of some aspect of the Basque Country within artistic guidelines". Helga Massetani
"Between mid-November and mid-December I was in an art residency organized by Bitamine Faktoria in the Basque country, Irun and its surroundings. There I searched for elements to establish dialogues with balloons: the fragile volumes of silk paper that I constructed for a specific place, to a particular situation where I installed and recorded them. Two elements held me back: the orographic aspect of the territory; the mountain which crosses the pampas and next to it there is the sea and the mountain again - then the same again, but backwards. Then banana trees, the trees that are practically shaped at will." Gaspar Acebo
Many of the most beautiful spots in the surrounding nature have served both as inspiration and scenery for these projects. However, it is reasonable when an artist travels to a place other than his or her birthplace or habitual residence. The most unusual, or the most untouched, native corners can be the impetus for the creation of people who set foot on this land for the first time. Perhaps a longer residence is needed for this to happen, but the koinoboris* of Acebo have been born in the context and have emerged from it: "Gaspar's work refers us to the concept of ether, more specifically to the ethyl ether, lighter than water, and its steam denser than air, which heat boils the hand and which solidifies at just over -100°C. This idea speaks to us about the ephemerality of his works, and finally, about the ephemerality of life, and time. The role of the record is crucial to remind us about these kinds of works, to record the moment what the people who weren’t there couldn’t see. Leyre Goikoetxea Martinez
