FERNANDA MORAIS
DIARIO DE FABULAJE
Result of the work done by the Brazilian artist during the international residency in June 2012.
The exhibition "Diario de fabulaje" showed six works that record Fernanda Moráis' first steps in the Basque Country, her initial impressions of its people, its remarkable language, culture and history. The exhibition sought to present what was born in the artist when she confronted a new territory, when she was spontaneously contaminated by the strangeness and beauty of the unknown.
The exchange of ideas about the local culture and language, the experience of new customs, the multicultural learning and the contact with different artists formed the starting point for the elaboration of the works. Thus, throughout 30 days, it was possible to keep the thinking focused on all stages of the project's development, from the conception to the exhibition of the finished works; giving space to unfold the theme proposed for the program.
The "Diario de Fabulaje" is the result of the convergence of multifaceted information and fragments of experiences: it is a meeting point of the curiosity of the "explorer traveler" with the fantastic imaginary of the contemporary artist. Through photographs, videos and installations, you can perceive that the presented works are not only based on scenes observed throughout the artistic residency, but also on stories which were told by people with whom I met. The nature, the people, the facades of the Basque houses appear with their characteristics, however the rigorous concern or the documentary intention of the representation or description is not present.
