Founded in 2015 by artist Marina Planas, Casa Planas is a collective, non-profit making organisation responding to the pressing need for an interdisciplinary centre dedicated to contemporary creation and the interpretation of tourism in the Balearic Islands.

Congreso del Observatorio de la Cultura Turística Sostenible // COSTA
El Congreso del Observatorio de la Cultura Turística Sostenible // COSTA se presenta como
una plataforma de conocimiento, interpretación y diálogo interdisciplinar para reimaginar el turismo desde una perspectiva crítica y plural. Este encuentro reúne a investigadores, artistas y profesionales del sector para analizar el impacto del turismo desde una perspectiva ecosocial. El congreso busca generar nuevas narrativas que superen el actual modelo extractivista y propongan alternativas responsables que integren innovación, memoria y la transformación ecosocial.
El Congreso del Observatorio COSTA se estructura en torno a cuatro ejes fundamentales: (Ciencia-Arte, Turismo-Sostenibilidad) con el objetivo de profundizar en la producción de conocimiento del imaginario turístico. Promovemos la creación como territorio de imaginación radical, la sostenibilidad como marco ético y la exploración de nuevas metodologías de investigación como experimento político. Este Observatorio está formado por un grupo de investigación interdisciplinar abierto a la integración de voces minoritarias o
microrrelatos para constituir en su conjunto una cátedra colectiva. Invitamos a investigadores, artistas, ecologistas, profesionales del sector turístico y la comunicación a participar en este encuentro para contribuir a una visión más justa e inclusiva del turismo en
el siglo XXI.
Hormigón de fondo
A partir de su investigación en la beca Desplazamenduak / Desplazamientos #1, Raquel Meyers propone un ensayo expandido que desmonta el mito del progreso mostrando el hormigón como símbolo de control, turismo depredador y urbanismo excluyente. Entre Palma e Irun, construye una arqueología emocional y política del capitalismo tardío: cemento, expulsión, precariedad. Su obra combina archivo, teletexto y memoria para revelar el desarrollo como un relato de desigualdad.
Más que soluciones, ofrece un gesto crítico desde los márgenes: una denuncia del despojo de lo común y un llamado urgente a imaginar otras formas de habitar y construir ciudad.
Raquel Meyers es artista visual que trabaja con tecnologías obsoletas y estética textual para explorar memoria, control y resistencia digital.
Helga Massetani es la Directora de Bitamine Kultur Elkartea junto a Casa Planas impulsan en 2024 un programa de becas para investigadoras residentes en Euskadi y Baleares destinado a desarrollar proyectos que reflexionen sobre el impacto sociocultural del turismo tomando como punto de partida el archivo Planas Archive.

La exposición estará abierta al público de forma gratuíta el viernes 24 a partir de las 20h y el sábado día 25 de
10-14h.
Speed Networking / Acto de clausura.
Consiste en un aperitivo en grupos reducidos de máximo 5 personas en las que durante 30 minutos y de forma grupal explicarán los proyectos de creación.

It's a shame that concrete doesn't burn
"It's a shame that concrete doesn't burn" is the translation of the phrase Schade, dass Beton nicht brennt, used by workers and squatters in Germany during the 1970s against the mass construction of reinforced concrete. Concrete is the "miraculous" material that reshaped territories in the post-war era, with multiple implications in the economy, tourism, and progress. This project seeks to investigate and discuss the ruins, scars, remnants, and human relationships with concrete in Palma de Mallorca and Irún.
Raquel Meyers is a multidisciplinary artist and independent researcher who works with obsolescence as a means of resistance, using writing, photography, animation, teletext, the Commodore 64, fax, typewriter, or embroidery as tools. Since 2004, her work has been exhibited in art centers, galleries, and festivals such as Ars Electronica, Transmediale, Xpo Gallery, La Casa Encendida, FILE – Electronic Language International Festival, Liste Art Fair Basel, Getxophoto, BMoCA, Cáceres Abierto, Media Archeology Lab MAL, P21 Seoul, La Gaîté Lyrique, LABoral, iMAL, Piksel, Shibuya Pixel Art, MFRU, HeK, ETOPIA, Eufònic Urbà…

Bitamine, a space for artistic, cultural, and social research at the border, located in Irun-Euskadi, in association with Casa Planas, a research center for contemporary image located in Palma de Mallorca, are launching a grant program aimed at researchers residing in Euskadi.
This artistic research program aims to develop and produce projects that reflect on the socio-cultural impact of tourism.
The research is based on the activation of the International Archive on the History of Tourism (Planas Archive)
WHAT IT ENTAILS
It offers the possibility to activate the research at the Casa Planas headquarters in Palma de Mallorca in a one-month residency format during January 2025 and to develop the rest of the research in Euskadi during the following months (February and March), with the possibility of using the Bitamine residency in the Bidasoa region if the artist deems it necessary.
Finally, a schedule of activities is organized jointly with the collaborating institutions, where the artist will present the results of their research within the framework of the International COSTA Congress (Observatory of Sustainable Tourism and Culture), organized by Casa Planas in Palma de Mallorca in October 2025 (More info), as well as public presentation activities in Euskadi. This offers an experience that we hope will contribute positively to the development of their career and artistic research process.
WHO CAN RECEIVE IT
This open call for artistic research projects is aimed at artists, researchers, curators, etc., residing and working in Euskadi, regardless of their discipline and field of study.
SELECTION CRITERIA
The grant will be awarded to applicants who achieve the highest score according to the following evaluation criteria: a) the project presented (50%); b) the applicant’s curriculum or track record (25%); c) the adequacy and suitability of the project to the resources and context in which it is developed (15%); and d) the applicant's social mediation experience (10%).
