RIBERA #1
THE MEMORY OF THE BIDASOA THROUGH ART
The RI8ERA project is taking place in a specific setting of activity: the festivity of the Bidasoa River is going to meet with the 250th anniversary of the disannexation and creation of the city of Irun and also with the centenary of the Avenida Bridge construction.
The proposal is based on the artistic interpretation of the historical and anthropological materials about events that took place around the Avenue Bridge. The projects are developed by various artists, technicians, researchers and groups; mostly locals, who have contributed to common reflections on the geographical-temporal space. They came from different disciplines and the proposals articulated along three main axes: the river, the memory and contemporary art.
The public presentation will be held in two days. The first, in the public space around the Avenida Bridge will take place on Saturday 24 September 2016. It aims to recover the river's geographical space through the dynamics of creation, sensations and experiences; recalling history in a transversal way from contemporary art through the hybridization of disciplines such as mediation, technology, contemporary artistic practices and landscape design. The second day, scheduled for 6 October at the CBA cultural centre, aims to distribute and publicize the artistic projects in which the artists has worked, and to show what the working processes have been like, inviting the public for a collective reflection.
The program presented the following works, created specifically for Ribera:
Word of border
Javier San Martinen, Aloña Zubizarretare & Maider Likona - “Pescando Aniversarios”, “Sonidos del pasado”
Jeongsoo Lim - “Give me your name”
Parasite - “Camino narrado”
The new invisible border
Aitzpea Leizaola & Helga Massetani - workshop d'art et d'anthropologie
Ezmugak - “Zubi sweet home”
Border music
Maider Elcano - “Karaoke mobil”
Objetologies of memory
Lander Etxedona - installation audiovisuelle
Jeongsoo Lim - “Ask and respond”
Bitamine Faktoria - "Gauproject"

RIBERA #2
THE MEMORY OF THE BIDASOA THROUGH ART
The second edition of the Ribera project was held on Saturday 23 September 2017 on the banks of the Bidasoa River. This initiative highlights the cultural and historical legacy of the river and the water as the revitalizing force behind our lives. Throughout the day, various artists and groups intervened in this space with installations, projections, dance, and music.
The program included various installations and actions by Bitamine Faktoria as well; the mobile gallery Kubo Beltza Project by Pau Figueres with "Echoes of Bidasoa"; "Walls of Memory" by GKo Gallery; the contemporary dance piece by Myriam Pérez Cazabon "Nere azalean arrotz"; a forum theatre, the result of the Ribera Grant directed by Alazne Corral and Gorka Álvarez; the performance of the duo LUMI; and the "Expanded Landscape Bidasoa" projections by Jaime de los Ríos.
In addition, Ribera proposed a presentation on October 5 2017, at the CBA cultural center, with the aim to distribute and publicize the artistic process in which the artists were involved, to show how the work processes have been, inviting the public to a collective reflection.
The Ribera project is an initiative promoted by the Irun City Council within the framework of the Irun Factory, a program for the promotion of creative industries and artistic creation which focus on the decentralization and visibility of art in public spaces.

RIBERA #3
THE MEMORY OF BIDASOA THROUGH ART
This program is promoted by the Irun City Council and managed by Bitamine Faktoria. It values the memory of the Bidasoa River through practices linked to contemporary art, as a tool to recover the river bank and strengthen its link with the citizens, recalling its role as a revitalizing factor of society.
Ribera is presented over two days in early autumn. The first and main day was developed in the surroundings of the Bidasoa with the objective to recover the geographical space of the river by means of dynamics of creation, perception and experience, remembering history in a transversal way. The second day was held at the CBA Cultural Centre with the aim to distribute the artistic processes and their results by inviting the public to a collective reflection.
The programme for this third edition included the following proposals: ECOS DEL BIDASOA, a sound installation by Bitamine Faktoria located in the former barracks of the carabineros in the area of Osinbiribil that included the stories of Virginia Gasull (1943) and Eneko Arcas (Deia); the TRAVEL BOOK participative activities; painting and drawing in the open air, promoted by Juncal Alfonso & Arantza Albisu (Il Duomo), and STORIES OF PEDALS, a bicycle narrated walk, told by Idoia Castro (Oiasso Museum), Ana Galdós, Fernando García Nieto, Mikel Huarte & Heidi Otaduy (Ribera Scholarship) and Ion Aranguren (Sos Racismo / Irungo Harrera Sarea). The program also included PAREDES DE LA MEMORIA, a mural intervention by Xabier Anunzibai under the viaduct on Santiago Street. For its part, Bitamine Faktoria designed CHECKPOINT, a device that served as an information and meeting point; LA PLAYA, an installation to contemplate on the Bidasoa; and SELFIE POINTS, an intervention that vindicates the riverbank as a tourist attraction. The day concluded with performances by Eneko Alcaraz (Cia. Ekilore) with his contemporary dance piece "Sorginak kanpora"; and Sur Le Feel, a jazz manouche trio that provided the soundtrack for the PIQUE-NIQUE CONCERT. Finally, the research project "La Isla de los Faisanes, modos de narrar la Historia", by Iván Gómez and Iraitz Agirre (Ribera Scholarships) was accomplished.
TRANSBITA
DIZIPLINARTEKO PROPOSAMEN PARTE-HARTZAILE BATEKIN BIDAIATZEN DUEN GAILU MUGIKORRA
2014an, Bitamine Faktoriak 1978ko karabana bat birdiseinatu eta egokitu zuen, eta langune mugikor bihurtu. Edonora doala ere, egoitza gisa erabiltzen da, eta artisten eta jendartearen arteko topagune aparta da. Hartzaile berriak lortzeko, diziplina desberdinetako artistak konektatzeko eta kultura arloan forma berriekin esperimentatzeko tresna da Transbita.
Arte eta kultura garaikidea ikus-entzule talde zabalago bati iritsi behar zaizkio, jendartearengan jakin-mina, interesa eta pentsamendu kritikoa pizteko. Horregatik, ezohiko tokietara hurbiltzen dugu esperientzia hori; bai itsasoaren ondora, bai museo baten sarrerara edo plaza batera, beti topaketa bilatuta. Plazara jalgi denetik, Transbita 10 alditan baino gehiagotan abiatu da, diziplina anitzeko bere proposamen parte-hartzailea soinean eramanda, besteak beste: zuzeneko musika, dantza garaikidea, lan audiobisualak, argi-laborategia, arte plastikoa eta emanaldiak. Azken irtenaldietan, topagune gisa balio izan du, bai eta hainbat programaren baitan proposamen artistikoak biltzeko gune gisa ere; besteak beste, Kontenporanea, A Town That Makes You Happy eta Ribera.

Berdinen arteko topaketa eta elkartruke lekua.
Asteartero, 16:00etatik 18:00etara.
2015eko Maiatzaren 12tik ekainaren 16ra
Baliabideak izatea ez da bakarrik lanerako espazio bat izatea.
Argi dago gaur egun gure etxea izan daitekeela. Espazioak beste gauza erakargarriak izan behar ditu arlo honetako komunitatea aglutinatzeko.
Egingarri diren adibide batzuk hurrengo hauek dira: baliabideen informazioa, kontaktuak erraztea, proiektuen tutorizazioa, iturrien laguntza (liburuak, artistak, kudeaketa-ereduak, beste enpresa kreatiboen adibideak, etab), kontseilu fiskalak, finantziazio medioak. Ekimen kulturalak azkarrago, errazago eta ziurrago jaurti ahal izatearekin erlazionatutako gauzak.
Hortaz, behar hau formalki programatutako tailer edo jardunaldietatik kanpo kontaktuak egiteko aukera batean bilakatu daiteke.
Formatu lasaia da baita planteamendu hauei jarraipena eta soluzioak emateko topaketa lekua ere. Espazio hau publiko guztiari irekita dago eta bertan komunitate artistikoak orokorrean planteatutako gai guztiak bideratuko dira.
KONTENPORANEA #4
ELKARTRUKEA
Laugarren edizioa elkartrukean oinarritzen da, elkarrekikotasun- eta atzeraelikadura-dinamika gisa ulertuta. Trukerako bokazioa presente egon da programazioaren diseinuan eta proposatutako jarduera batzuen arteko loturan. Hain zuzen ere, programatutako tailerrak elkarri lotuta egon dira: horietako bakoitza elikatu egin da, aldez aurreko jardueran lortutako baliabideak eta materialak erabiliz. Azken emaitza izaera kolektiboa duen proiektu artistiko pertsonal bat izan da, argitalpen formatuan.
Oraingoan, Miguel Matador, Julen Sanchez eta Haizea Olaizolak (Irun), Maialen Caballerok (Hendaia) eta Faidra Drakonakik (Hendaian bizi den greziarra) osatu dute batzorde antolatzailea. Literatura, Hizkuntzalaritza, Kultura Kudeaketa eta Diseinu Grafikoa bezalako diziplinetan izandako esperientziak proiektua aberastu du, Bitamine faktoriarekin batera.

A TOWN THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY #1
ARTE GARAIKIDEA EREMU PUBLIKOAN
Bitamine Faktorian forma hartutako ekimena da A Town That Makes You Happy, eta esku-hartze, ekintza eta lantegi parte-hartzaileei esker eremu publikoan eragin positiboa sortzea du xede. Jakin dakigunez gizartea eraldatzeko tresna boteretsua dela artea, hiri-paisaia aldatu egin nahi dugu, inguratzen gaituena edertzeko. Adibidez, gris-kolorea besterik ez zegoen tokietan koloretako arrastoa uztea, altxatutako horma zatietan mapak kartografiatzea, edo iragarki oldarkorrez jositako paneletan mezu adeitsuak islatzea. Aipatutako adibideak lan iragankorrak diren arren, pertsonen eta tokien memorian diraute luzaroan. Proiektu honek artea ohiko tokietatik at eramaten du, jendarteak ahaztuta dituen edo haientzat ikusezinak diren tokiak hautatuta, tokiotan nekez antolatzen baitira jarduera edo ekitaldi ikusgarriak.
A Town That Makes You Happy ekitaldiaren lehenengo edizioak arte garaikidearen inguruko hainbat esku-hartze proposatu zituen gure egoitzaren auzoa den Larreaundin. Ekimen horretan, eskualdeko artisten, bizilagunen, denden eta enpresen iritziak bildu ziren, auzo erakargarriago eta lagunkoiago bat diseinatzeko.
2018ko urriaren 6an (larunbata) gauzatutako proiektua Loiolako Iñigo kalean garatu zen; hots, Bitamine Faktoriaren egoitzaren kalean. A Town That Makes You Happy proiektuaren helburua eremu publikoan eta pertsonen umorean eragin positiboa sorraraztea da, tokiko, Gipuzkoako eta Euskadiko emakume sortzaile talde batek auzorako pentsatutako esku-hartze, ekintza eta lantegi parte-hartzaileen bidez. Eguna girotzeko, herri-bazkari bat antolatu zen, bazkalondo eta guzti, bai eta Sara Mansilla eta Moon djs musikariek eskainitako zuzeneko saio bat ere.

A TOWN THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY #2
ARTE GARAIKIDEA EREMU PUBLIKOAN

A Town That Makes You Happy proiektuaren bigarren edizioak muina mantendu egin zuen (eremu publikoan parte hartzea, alegia); formatua, berriz, aldatu. Oraingoan, enpresa handien kanpainetarako erabili ohi diren hainbat publizitate-eremu okupatzean zetzan proiektua, modu iragankorrean haietan esku hartzeko, artelanen ohol izan zitezen. Hausnarketarako gonbidapen diren eta nahasmena/harridura sorrarazten duten lanen bidez, komunikazioaren eta kontsumoaren inguruko kontzientziazioa suspertu nahi zen proiektuarekin.
Abenduaren lehen bi asteetan zehar, lanak eremu publikoan jarri ziren ikusgai, artearekin bateragarriak izan ohi ez diren euskarri eta tokietan. Programazioa osatzeko, emakume artista gonbidatuetako laurekin eta Transbitarekin topaketak antolatu ziren. Azken hori Bitamine Faktoriak sortutako karabana ibiltaria da, zeinak hiriko auzo eta kaleetan barrena Estíbaliz Sádabak egindako ibilbidearen lan audiobisuala erakusten baituen.

EMOTIONAL CARTOGRAPHY OF BIDASOA
This research and action project has been developed in tandem with the anthropologist and historian María José Noain and Bitamine Faktoria as an artistic collective. It was awarded a Ribera Grant from the Irun City Council. These grants are aimed at activating a permanent framework in the field of human sciences and art for projects whose object of study is the border territory, especially the Bidasoa river and its surroundings.
The participation of the community has been fundamental during the nine-month-long process of mapping the emotions linked to the Bidasoa region. Research and action have focused on interaction with local inhabitants through surveys, personal and group interviews, actions in the public space and workshops with primary school children.
In this way, the bibliographic research has been enriched with the collection of oral testimonies and personal perception about the river both in its symbolic and plastic dimension. The end result is a timeless polyhedral story in the form of a fold-out map that reflects the emotions shared by citizens. All in all, an artistic creation inspired by an active research into the emotional cartography of Bidasoa.
CREATIVE NEIGHBORHOOD #1
The opening of the exhibition that includes the results of the different projects was last Thursday, May 28 (2015)
It is a joint work carried out by the Irunesian artists Maialen Arocena, Tania Lozano, Aitor Izaguirre and Mónica González with the Neighborhood Associations of the neighborhoods selected for this first edition: Parte Vieja, San Miguel, Elitxu and Anaka.
RIBERA #5
THE MEMORY OF BIDASOA THROUGH ART
Ribera is held in the public space, along the banks of Bidasoa river, a core part of the region's identity, and offers new perspectives of this memory space from the point of view of art. This programme values the memory of the Bidasoa river through practices linked to contemporary art, as a tool to recover the river bank and strengthen its link with the citizens, recalling its role as a revitalizing factor of society.
“Possible futures, imagined futures” was the theme which drove this year’s event, inviting both artists and the public to reflect on the memory of the future in these uncertain times. The coronavirus pandemic forced us to reshape some activities. For instance, we used a pier as a stage in order to maintain social distancing and a theater company performed a piece with no attendees but a “sold out” poster. Guided tours in smaller groups made them more participatory and meaningful to the people.”

CREATIVE INDUSTRIES DAY #5
A meeting to share the knowledge and actions of innovation.
The cultural and creative industries are one of the driving sectors today, due to their strategic role in the new knowledge economy and their high added value. The Creative Industries Day is an opportunity to learn about business initiatives in our environment that try to break through in society with their innovative projects. In turn, this meeting serves to connect different entrepreneurs, fostering synergies and collaborations with the aim of strengthening the creative industrial fabric.
This event invites companies and associations from the Basque Country to present their business ideas, explain their innovation processes and how they introduce their product or service to the market. It is an opportunity to debate and reflect on different topics related to creativity and innovation, sharing knowledge and actions within the entrepreneurial community. The Economic Promotion Area of the Irun City Council and the Bidasoa Activa Bidasoa Bizirik local development agency have organized this meeting since 2013.

ITSASARGI & KIMA /- INSTALLATIONS
Bitamine Faktoria designs and directs a specific artistic project for the Christmas market. A team effort and in collaboration with a score of artists to attract attention and focus on the local creative community in a turbulent and complicated year for the sector. The market is an activity promoted by the City and Economy Impulse Area of the Irun City Council.
ITSASARGI ✨
Itsasargi catches our attention and invites us to look from another perspective, to be more aware of what surrounds us. This visual metaphor enlightens us and makes us imagine the good that is to come.
Occupy space, the void that fills the air in its immensity. The accumulation of forms illuminates the dimension of what surrounds us. *
A visual metaphor that invites us to stop and observe around us what we are not aware of. *
Moments that pass so slowly that they push us to contemplate. *

KIMA 🌿
Art has sprung up in the Ensanche square, within the Christmas Market. Thanks to the contribution of all the participating artists and creators, artistic creation has been visualized in an attractive and metaphorical way.

We often think that art and culture are constantly springing up, we believe that they are an endless spring. But like our trees, we must take care of the culture and the artists, so that they continue to grow. *
This year the tips of the branches look different in the trees in the square. Their art flows, and they protect us like a lush forest on a rainy day. *

KONTENPORANEA #5
Kontenporanea is a contemporary culture meeting promoted by Irun City Council and organised by young professionals from the fields of art, culture and design. Under a collective and collaborative format, each one forms part of a gear with the aim of giving visibility to the artistic projects that exist in our territory and sharing an experience with local, national and international creatives.
The general theme around which this edition revolves is the contrast between the exterior and the interior, which has arisen as a result of the situation of recent years.
We feel that a limitation has been defined between the home and the public space, generating consequences in several areas: relational, emotional, psychological, economic, etc.
We want this edition of Kontenporanea to create a space where we can share the perspectives of what we have experienced in order to understand and work on this dichotomy.

Emotional Atlas of Bidasoa
Atlas: A collection of maps, mainly geographical, presented in book or notebook form.
This project arises as a continuation of the research carried out thanks to the 2019 Ribera Grant awarded by Irun City Council, which was entitled "Emotional Cartography of Bidasoa".
The main idea revolves around the decision to carry out a practical mediation exercise on the contents researched. Not only to highlight different characters, events, hobbies, etc., but also to work on it in a transversal way with different artistic disciplines.
We are sure that research of these characteristics that deals with interculturality, in a border context at the moment we are living in, provides more plural results in the revision of many aspects of the historical memory of this territory. "In a time of globalisation, the most revealing object of study, the most questioning of ethnocentric or disciplinary pseudo-certainties is interculturality" (Canclini, 2006: 101). Interculturality is the tool with which we have to work for integration. Dialogue, in order to understand and accept our diversity as cultural richness and intangible world heritage, is the basis of our coexistence.
We have called it an atlas, because it presents a series of educational booklets combined with the work of the illustrator Elena Odriozola, highlighting relevant social aspects. Ten small notebooks that tell stories of a geographical space written in an elegant way by María José Noain Maura and with a language that is accessible to all kinds of audiences.

CBA CREATION SPACE - FIELDWORK
In 2021, as a result of an extension planned for the CBA cultural centre, Irun City Council’s culture department will begin to reflect on a part of this extension that will be used as a creative space.
We are currently reflecting on the conception of the content in general terms, the specific uses, the aims pursued and the spatial needs that must be taken into account in order to design a space that fits into the local context.
The aim is to house the strategic cultural projects already underway promoted by the area of culture, but on the other hand, to ensure that they coexist with and receive feedback from other public and private cultural agents in the city, as well as from the rest of the spaces and proposals of the centre itself.
Based on this challenge, fieldwork was proposed, consisting of three sessions held with the team from the culture and youth area on the three main issues to work on when planning and sizing the usefulness of a space for the creation and dissemination of local artistic culture.
Each session focused on a specific aspect:
-discursive line
-Analysis of the national and international context.
-local-spatial projection.
At the end of the fieldwork, a report was drafted focusing on the social and cultural aspect of the site in line with its usefulness and habitability.
KULTURBOX
The way of consuming culture has changed considerably in recent times. In addition to existing trends towards digitalisation, there has been the impact of the coronavirus, which has had a very negative impact on the development of in-person cultural activity, but which has allowed the development of new ways of consuming art and culture, online and choosing the content that most interests us, to enjoy it when, where and how we want.
This change of parameters logically affects everything to do with artistic creation, art consumption and the dissemination of cultural heritage. Moreover, we must remember the importance of the heritage value chain and its six interconnected steps: identification, documentation, valuation, conservation, dissemination and reflection.
Combining both concepts, the new modes of artistic-cultural consumption and the importance of the heritage value chain, this project is focused on the dissemination of art and heritage combined with a careful aesthetic from the keys of design and contemporary art. This is how KulturBox was born, a series of artistic boxes to approach culture in an accessible, inclusive and comfortable way, offering a new quality format that incorporates playfulness and allows you to enjoy culture à la carte.
KulturBox is designed for anyone who shows an interest in culture and art, regardless of their education or knowledge of it. Restless people, concerned about the knowledge of their environment and who are sensitive to the heritage that surrounds them, eager to know and learn, but also to look for quality leisure activities.
The KulturBox project is promoted in a co-creation format with María José Noain Maura, from Los Viajes de Aspasia.
Emotional Atlas of Bidasoa - exhibition
2023.02.03 / 2023.06.04
OIASSO MUSEOA
An exhibition at the Oiasso Roman Museum (Irun) curated and art directed by Helga Massetani Piemonte and María José Noain Maura.
"It is not possible to bathe twice in the same river". This famous phrase, perhaps erroneously attributed to the Greek philosopher Heraclitus, is perfect for reflecting on the Bidasoa. Its character as a border river, since ancient times, has allowed it to see the most varied historical events, to hear different languages on its banks, to host great celebrations and great tragedies, to become a mute witness to the passing of time. The river Bidasoa is the protagonist of this exhibition and comes to life through the voices of its inhabitants.
In 2019, Bitamine Faktoria (Helga Massetani Piemonte) and Los Viajes de Aspasia (María José Noain Maura) received the Ribera grant from Irun City Council to develop a project that at the time was called "Cartografía Emocional del Bidasoa" (Emotional Cartography of the Bidasoa). Previous work was carried out on the history of artistic cartography which was followed by anthropological research, in which, through surveys and group interviews, the emotional perception that the inhabitants of its banks have of the Bidasoa was collected. In this way, a conceptual and artistic map of the river's memory was drawn up.
The project was continued in 2021, taking on a new dimension that transformed it into "Atlas Emocional del Bidasoa". It was then the Olatuak grant from the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and the Creation Aid from Irun Town Council that facilitated the transformation of the research into an artist's book: an edition of ten literary and historical notebooks, illustrated by Elena Odriozola. Ten of the themes most highlighted by the citizens during the research phase were chosen and are now transformed into ten modules that make up this exhibition. Each module talks about an aspect, but not only for information purposes, but also as an artistic installation that aims to evoke memories, stir emotions, rescue from oblivion what we were, are and want to be. They can be visited in the order that each person chooses: the important thing is to move between them, like the waters of the river. After all, as the Greek philosopher himself said, everything flows, nothing remains.
